Understanding Mental Health and Wellness for Youth and Adults

During this virtual training, participants will understand the connection between our internal brain function and the behaviors we observe in programs as well as understand the impact stress and trauma has on a young person.

This module was developed as a part of the OST Wellness Network.

In this training participants will:

  • Understand trauma, the types of trauma, levels of impact, and who is most vulnerable.

  • Gain a foundational understanding of how trauma and mental health impact young people’s behaviors, needs, and capacity to learn

  • Reflect on their own mental health and wellness

Content Overview:

Topic Introduction

Participants will review the topic of this module and the intended objectives of the training module.

Spectrum of Stress

Participants will understand the impact of toxic stress and traumatic events has on a young person’s internal systems and the behaviors they observe in programs.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Exploration

Participants will engage in an activity to learn about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), understand the types of experiences that are included in ACEs and the role they play in supporting a young person who has one or more ACEs.

Training Length: 1.5 hours
